The subject matter is a Little Boy whispering in a Stork's Ear. The Bronze is 25 1/2" Tall by 17 1/2" Wide; the base is 14. The aging and patina likely indicate that this was once a garden displayed sculpture. For Jennewein, this is extremely rare as most of his outdoor bronzes are now in museums or outside famous landmarks.
Jennewein was born in Stuttgart Germany and immigrated to the US in 1907. Much of his early work was as a muralist, including in 1912 four murals for the Woolworth Building. Many of his Sculptures are prominently displayed in Washington, DC including the Eagle at the entrance of Arlington Cemetery and Spirit of Justice & Majesty of Law at the RFK Department of Justice Building.
