This was located preserved in an Eastern North Carolina estate. I haven't seen any with a base like this. I can't imagine it came like this.
It appears to be mounted to a vintage sewing machine base and displays so well! These are very rare and from what I understand, they were used to work the buttermilk from the butter. It was explained to me that the small hole in the box is where the buttermilk escaped from. This is a very cool piece.
