For the development and production of the 1982 Ridley Scott film, Blade Runner, a talented team of cast and crew members helped to bring the future world of the characters to life in conditions or rain and cold during many nights on the set of the Burbank filming lot at Warner Bros. For production-supplied attire, the production company supplied shirts, jackets and hats to production members.
This is a production-supplied black hat produced to carry the early developed film title art text that differs from the jackets and shirts, with the hats following the same inclusion of the threaded embroidery technique as the jackets. As the years have passed since the making of the film, production items are difficult to find and obtain such as crew jackets in good condition, which many appear to have suffered a great deal of color discoloration, with only a few crew shirts surfacing for sale, while no production-issued hats are known to ever surface on the market. Like the crew shirts and a small number of the jackets issued at the time, there is no "TM" marking accompanying the title embroidery.
Made of a light reinforced black nylon fabric. The hat embroidery has reflective thread in silver and purple. Produced exclusively with tag by Century 21 Promotions Inc. In Seattle, WA, the base product is a manufacture of Korea.
One size fits all is present on label. Measures approximately 11" x 8" x 8 overall. This hat shows only small evidence of prior use on the inside band with no signs of washing, wear or damage now being over four decades old. It was set up for photography for this listing in December 2022. ABOUT THE BLADE RUNNER HAT AND CAST & CREW ATTIRE.
While this original Blade Runner production hat represents the only known hat to surface on the market, the cast and crew were supplied with different related items. As this hat carries the early developed film title art with the sharp angle bladed "e" letter design, that was present on early release theatrical preview trailers and some promotional items, only one other clothing item was made available to carry the same title art on attire which was for the the college film preview of Blade Runner promoted by Schlitz at select colleges. Those included t-shirts with that film title art as a transfer on the front with a large Schlitz logo in the shape of move camera on the back. The jackets and shirts carried a style of designs with block style font for the Blade Runner text designed on an arc with the foreign lettering below. Some of the early jackets issued to crew had no "TM" applied, and only a few are currently known to exist.
Some of those are known to be issued to special effects and art department members who were on the production at the early stage during per-production prior to principal photography.
