C. F. Monroe NAKARA Wave Crest Dresser Box SPINDRIFT Mold

  

Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful Nakara Wave Crest Art Glass 8 dresser box in the Spindrift mold by the C. This box is the largest of the boxes made and are considered scarce in this size.

The box features a dark green background color with a satin finish and is decorated with a gorgeous hand enameled floral design on the top in shades of white/cream and pale pink. The bottom of the box shades from pale pink at the top edge to green on the body. The elaborate molded design decorated both the top and bottom sections. The top and base are fitted with brass bands and clasp with a tight hinge that opens and closes correctly.

The box is lined with new dark antique gold satin lining. The base is marked Nakara, C. And the box has its original paper label although label is worn. Box is pictured on page 129 of the book Wave Crest, the Glass of C.

This lovely box is in excellent Estate with no chips, cracks or repairs. The background color is not faded nor is the paint worn.

There are some minor no-harm surface scratches on the bottom half of the box on the embossed areas (see photos) - no other noted flaws. History: Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then hand decorated.

There were three types of decoration used on this opal glass - Wave Crest, Kelva and Nakara each decorated with their distinct style decoration. Both Kelva and Nakara decorated items were made in less quantity than basic Wave Crest items and are for that reason are generally more expensive and harder to find. This large size and mold are very hard to find and considered to be rare. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt.
